ABOUT BOBBY'S KIDS - WORLD PREMIERE WEEKEND FEBRUARY 24 & 25TH 2023
BOBBY'S KIDS is the story of how one man empowered a whole generation to see the possibility in going to college through music. Bobby L. Brown was the iconic band director of the Mackenzie High School "Band of Renown" of Detroit. Mr. Brown, a Southern University graduate and alumni of the famed band The "Human Jukebox" brought the HBCU Marching Band culture to Detroit in the 80's when drugs, murders, and crime were at an all-time high. Building a band from nothing, in just a few short years the band had raised to national acclaim and Brown had sent dozens of students on scholarships to Southern University and other HBCU's like Florida A&M, Jackson State, Tuskegee, University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Delaware State, Alabama State - all on band scholarships. At one time, Mr. Brown had nearly 40 students, affectionately known as "Bobby's Kids" all from Mackenzie High School attending Southern University on band scholarships - a little known historic achievement - until now.
OUR STORY
How It All Started...
From making history with Bobby L. Brown at Mackenzie High school as the Clarinet Section Leader to becoming a member of the world famous Florida A&M University Marching 100, Brandi embodies the spirit of being "driven". For Brandi, the family environment and "on the field" training would prove to be the foundation for allowing her to achieve unimaginable success in her career and life as a once very economically disadvantaged teen growing up in Detroit. Her marching band experience is "the gift that keeps on giving" and has now become an experience her own son experiences as being a part of an HBCU marching band. She is fully vested in sharing the message of the benefits of band and music education and what she coined as "The Marching Band Factor".
From Message to Movement
In 2016, Brandi released the first HBCU Marching Band Documentary "Point And Drive" and toured it in 13 cities and over 35 screenings. The film turned into a movement sparking a resurgence in the desire to be in HBCU bands as well as exposing the world to the true culture of HBCU bands. She and her team independently financed, marketed and toured the film. The end result was that not only did the film become iconic, it solidified Brandi and KORIS Media as a pioneer in the telling of the cultures stories.
The HBCU Band Cultures Storyteller
Brandi and KORIS Media reached a new level of impact when Brandi became the authority in marketing and storytelling in the HBCU space. She helped to build the brand and tell the stories of one of the fastest and newest HBCU marching bands Florida Memorial University's "The ROAR" allowing them to achieve a social media presence and international opportunities many large music programs have yet to achieve. Her 360 approach to storytelling, marketing, and branding is one that allows her an undisputed edge not found in the industry. Through KORIS Media, she has become the go-to-source in all things filming, marketing and branding.
